Explain in 250 words or less why this volunteer deserves to be honoured with a VOscar in the category they have been entered in.
Linda Pollock dedicates herself to volunteerism and welcomes others to engage and to explore their talents.
At Centre 507, Linda serves on the Board of Directors as an officer who chairs the Human Resources Committee. For staff she strives to improve the workplace and to increase opportunity for growth. She is a strong personal support and advocate during emotional times. For participants Linda is a familiar face of the Centre. Some might call her an “Ambassador!”
Linda spearheaded the development and execution of a community garden. Centre 507’s snack program has become fresher and more diverse with her coordination of community volunteers, participant volunteers, school children and other non-profit groups. In this special project, Linda educates others and accommodates values of food sovereignty and environmental awareness.
Additionally, Linda chairs the Steering Committee for Artistic Expressions. This is a joint project with Centretown United Church and Centre 507. Artist mentors are coordinated by Linda. Through her fundraising efforts Linda ensures that the studio is fully equipped for community members exploring a creative skill.
Aside from being a valuable affiliate to our team, Linda is a dynamic member to many other organizations; active in The United Church, she coordinates delivery for the Christmas Hamper Project and most recently is a driving force in Refugee sponsorships. She also sings in a choir.
Centre 507 is lucky to have Linda as part of our volunteer team. Few people are as deserving for nomination.
We thank Linda for her leadership in our community!
