We adopted Mabel from the Lucas County Humane Society when her previous family surrendered her after 8 years. Mabel suffers from arthritis, had to have most of her teeth pulled, and her back legs are crippled from long-term lack of appropriate medical care. We feed her wet food so she can eat easily, and while she can hobble short distances she has to be carried up and down the porch steps. It took Mabel about 9 months to settle into her new home, probably because she was depressed about having been abandoned and fearful that it would happen again. But now she's a happy and bossy little lady who demands belly rubs and on-time meals, and that her personal heating pad be pre-warmed every night!
