Pet's Story
Percy is more than just a dog. He’s a living reminder of resilience, healing, and the power of community.
In January 2023, Percy was found barely alive on the side of a road near The Pas, Manitoba. At first, rescuers thought he had been shot. The reality was no less horrifying - Percy had been attacked by a pack of dogs and left for dead. He was rushed to the nearest vet to be stabilized, and then transferred hours away to Winnipeg for the kind of emergency care that would ultimately save his life.
When he arrived in Winnipeg, no one was sure if Percy would make it. His wounds were extensive, and the infections spreading through his tiny body were life-threatening and resistant to treatment. He underwent multiple surgeries, had cultures taken for a range of infections, and went through rounds of changing antibiotics as different bacteria continued to show up. It was a fight for his life, and there were moments when it seemed like he wouldn’t pull through.
But Percy isn’t just any dog. He’s a fighter. And with the tireless dedication of his veterinary team, the incredible support of volunteers, and the loving care of his foster families, Percy slowly began to heal.
One of the tools that helped his recovery was Phovia light therapy, a fluorescent light treatment that promotes tissue regeneration and skin healing. Percy received this therapy two to three times a week for over a month - just one of the many advanced treatments used to bring him back to health.
Now, over two years later, Percy is unrecognizable from the dog described above. He’s goofy, calm, and endlessly loving. He adores every single person that comes into his vicinity, greets everyone with a wagging tail, and has a hilarious signature move - backing up into you when he wants a butt rub. His gentle spirit and sweet personality make it impossible not to fall in love with him.
If you Google “Percy Manitoba,” you’ll find news stories chronicling his unbelievable journey. But to us, he’s more than a headline - he’s family.
We are so thankful to every veterinarian who treated him, every volunteer who shared his story, every person who donated, and every foster who gave him a safe place to rest and heal. It truly took a village to save Percy, and we’re forever grateful to all of them for bringing him back to health (and into our lives) happy, healthy, and full of love.
Putting Percy’s face on a beer can would be more than cute - it would be a tribute to survival, compassion, and second chances. His journey has touched the hearts of so many, and we hope it continues to inspire others to believe in the power of love and community.
Cheers to Percy - the ultimate good boy, and the bravest dog we know.
