Violet-headed hummingbird is one of the most beautiful hummingbirds of Costa Rica. They really know how to make a statement with their dazzling, iridescent violet crown, which shimmers brilliantly as it catches the light. Despite measuring only about 9 cm long, these tiny birds are remarkable aerial acrobats, able to hover with precision, fly backwards, and change direction in an instant. They visit hundreds of flowers each day, feeding on nectar while playing an important role as pollinators in tropical forests. Capturing one at just the right moment, with its colours illuminated, is surely a rewarding experience.
