Contest Rules

Donations made in support of an animal are valued at one vote for every $1.00 donated. Those who donate $15.00 or more will receive a tax-receipt. Please send your mailing address to donations@winnipeghumanesociety.ca to ensure you receive a receipt.
If appropriate, print-quality photos (see Photo Requirements/Rules) are not provided by the deadline, the WHS will offer the spot in the calendar to the next runner up.
By agreeing to the waiver, you acknowledge and give permission to the Winnipeg Humane Society to use the name, story and photo of the animal entered for future publications and materials, including - but not limited to - the 2024 WHS Calendar.

Contest Entry

Participants must be residents of Manitoba. Voters from outside of Manitoba & Canada are welcomed and eligible.
Each entry is limited to one photo.
You may submit as many entries as you like, however only one entry per animal will be permitted in the calendar.
Only breeds and species of animals that are adopted at the Winnipeg Humane Society may be submitted as an entry. This includes: dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and critters. No farm animals or exotic pets are eligible for entry.
This contest is open to any animal, they do not have to be alumnae to the WHS.
Once entered, all photos become the property of the Winnipeg Humane Society and can be used for print and marketing purposes.
The Winnipeg Humane Society reserves the right to disqualify an entry based on objectionable content or depiction of the animal or persons in a photo. Donations collected will be refunded if requested by the donor.

Photo Requirements/Rules

Photos must be high-quality, taken at maximum resolution, 300 DPI, minimum file size of 4mb (megabytes) in size and in a generally accepted file format. Please note: most phone photos will not meet these standards.
Photos submitted for the calendar must include at least one animal, who should be present in no less than 2/3 of the frame. Landscape format is preferred.
Please ensure that the photo is sharp and in focus with a clean background.
All submitted photos cannot contain a person. Animals only.
All entries must be in colour.
Horizontal (landscape) orientation is preferred as it is required for pet of the month placement.
If your entry was taken by a commercial studio, please include a signed copyright release from the photographer with your entry.

Contest Voting

Each dollar donated to a pet's photo represents one vote.
All donations over $15 are tax-deductible. Please send your mailing address to donations@winnipeghumanesociety.ca to ensure you receive a receipt.
All donations to the photo contest are final.
An email or home address is required to make an online donation so a receipt with tax information can be sent to the donor.
In the event that you must submit an offline donation, please mail your gift to: Winnipeg Humane Society ATTN: 2024 Calendar Contest 45 Hurst Way Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 In the memo line of your cheque, please indicate whose campaign you are voting for (ex. "Vote for Peter Pettigrew")

Contest Deadlines

Online entries and votes must be submitted by 12:00:00 PM (Central Time) on Friday, April 28, 2023.

Contest Winners

Contest winners will need to re-submit their photo to Winnipeg Humane Society as a high resolution, print quality image. Winners will be notified where to send photos.
If your animal has been "Pet of the Month" in a prior WHS calendar and you earn a "Pet of the Month" spot in the 2024 calendar, you may not re-use the same image from past calendars. You may use whatever picture you like for the contest, but the image that is placed in the 2024 calendar must be different.
Prize announcements will be revealed on our Facebook page within one week of the contest end-date.
