About Us

The Yancey Humane Society & Animal Shelter is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation Fed. EIN 58-1615767 located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, just 30 miles north of Asheville. We take in most animals brought to us: including all strays, feral dogs, cats, and personal pets on a case by case basis. We provide a loving temporary home until they can be placed in a permanent home. We are not a "no kill" shelter, however, we do not have a time limit. We treat all animals as individuals and temperament test them for adoptability. This way, no one slips through the system, and we know each and every personality in the house. YHS veterinary services are provided by Dr. Ted Wright and Dr. Margaret Moncure of Cedar Ridge Animal Hospital in Asheville who serve as Veterinarians of Record for the shelter.
