Your Pet's Story or Bio / What Makes Them Unique
Vegas gambled on me and I won. I adopted Vegas from the Atlanta Humane Society in November of 2001. The world changed dramatically a short time before I met Vegas. I won't ever forgot how she has changed my life and how she came along at a time in the world when many people were searching for meaning and purpose. Vegas was a tiny, little, scared dog when I met her. She stayed very close to me or one of the other dogs in our home. From the beginning, she has always loved other dogs, particularly her siblings who have all been big, black dogs. She is very happy curled up right next to them.
About four months after adopting Vegas, she disappeared from the back yard when I was distracted. At that time she weighed only six pounds and was still very timid. It was spring in Atlanta and the storms were fierce. This little, scared dog spent ten nights outside on her own in terrible storms. She was spotted multiple times but could not be caught. Finally someone found her, tired and close to drowning, as she was stuck in the mud in a pond with her nose barely about water. During the time Vegas was missing, many people prayed for her return and helped me search for her. We never gave up hope that she would be found, which was difficult because people would see her cute picture and say "somebody stole that cute dog." Fortunately Vegas came back to us. We will never know what happened on her big adventure, but do know that she is a true miracle dog. She is now a fierce 13 year old who continues to boss all the big dogs around.
