Tell Your Pet's Rescue Story Here:
I rescued Max in 2006 from Maxfund Animal Shelter. He was a matted mess and was standing in the corner, shy of all the other dogs. He was 3 years old, found as a stray in Denver, and had more than likely been abused as he cowered down around any strangers. We drove down to the shelter to visit him a couple times and he would always perk up for us and cry when we left. Soon we were blessed and got our adoption finalized for this sweet boy. Introducing him to the family and any new person proved to be a little challenge- the new person had to stand still, not move their feet at all, and slowly let him just sniff them and get comfortable without touching him. He also was especially scared of men and those who walked up to him with white shoes on. He would try to bite at feet if someone kept moving them with him nearby. We suspect he was kicked by a man who wore white shoes. The more times we slowly introduced him to our family and friends repeatedly he warmed up great and has been the most loving teddy bear. He is still skiddish around men the first second he meets them but he gets comfortable if he senses they are good people. He is now 13 and still playing like a puppy to this day!
