Contest Rules

Enter your favorite photo of your pet to win one of 10 coveted spots in the Humane Society of Skagit Valley 2015 Calendar. The top vote earner will be on the cover of the calendar!

We invite you to join the fun by participating in this special fundraiser which helps pets in need. The contest winners will be determined by public online voting.

All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, its animals and its endeavors.

You must submit a photo of your pet(s) and include: 

• Name of Pet
• Your Name
• Your City and State
• A paragraph that tells voters something fun or interesting about the pet in the photo. From what rescue or shelter did you adopt your pet? How long has he or she been a part of your family? Can you share something special that we could include on our calendar if your photo wins?
• Gender and age

All photos must be uploaded. Sorry, we cannot accept hard copies.

Entering is FREE! Each vote thereafter will be $1 (5 vote minimum). Each $1 donation counts as a vote for that photo.  There are 10 spots available to win. 

The top 10 winning entrants will have their pet's photo displayed on an 11”x17” calendar, on our website and Facebook page.  (3 choices are reserved for “HSSV alumni – Shelters Choice”, “Top Sponsors Choice – From Entered Pets” and one other category to be announced)

Humane Society of Skagit Valley is a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible.  All donations are non-refundable.

• Photos may contain more than one pet (and as such will be voted on as a group and will be photographed together as a winning pair/group), but should not contain people, obscene images or be of low quality. Photos must be uploaded in .jpeg format.
• Pet must be alive and able to participate in a local professional photography shoot in September and October.
• All submitted photos are subject to review and approval by HSSV and may be deleted if found to be obscene or inappropriate.
• All submitted photos become the property of HSSV and may be used in the future for promotional and marketing purposes.
• Photographs must not be from a professional studio or copyrighted.

Visit enter contest and follow the directions to upload a photograph of your pet along with a description of your pet. All photos become the property of the Humane Society of Skagit Valley.

You will need to create an account so that we may contact you if your pet is a winner.  Once you create your account, you can upload your photo. 


Winners will be determined by the number of votes received per pet photo. The voting period will end at 11:59:59 PM (PST) August 17, 2014.

• Once a pet photo is submitted, it will appear in the online gallery, and be open to voting by the general public. Voting requires a minimum donation of $5 ($1/vote)
• All votes are donations to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley and are fully tax-deductible as permitted by law. All votes for photo submissions will be calculated and displayed online.
• The email acknowledgment reply to your online donation serves as your tax receipt.
• The pets with the most votes (donations) at the end of the voting period will win the opportunity to be featured in the calendar. The single entrant with the most votes will be featured on the cover of the 2015 calendar.  The next 9 top vote recipients will each be featured on a monthly page. 

To vote, go to the entry you wish to vote on and donate a minimum of $5 for five votes. When voters donate, they will be given the option of applying all of the votes to one photo, spreading their votes over various photos, or storing votes in their account. If a voter chooses to store the votes, voter can log in to their account using their username and password and vote at a later time. Payments can be made via MasterCard and Visa.

• You can email links to family/friends to encourage voting for your pet's photo.
• On your pet's public page, there is a "share" button that allows you to share your entry through Facebook and other social networking sites.
• The competition is to be entered in the spirit of good fun and fairness. The purpose is to raise funds for the animals of the Humane Society of Skagit Valley.

The 10 top pet participants to receive the most votes when public voting ends will be contacted and given instructions about how to claim their prizes.  The winners will be required to attend a professional photo shoot on location with local photographer, Melissa Corcoran.
