Entries should include your pet's photo and story. Tell us WHY your pet is so special to you! Their story can include how they came into your life, what their personality is like, any fun facts, and why they deserve to be Halifax Humane Society’s next Cover Pet! In addition to our top fundraising winners, two judge’s choice winners will be selected. To enter, click the "Participate" tab above and follow the instructions to upload a photo of your pet. All fur-ever friends are encouraged to enter!

• All entries and votes must be submitted by July 31^st at 8:59:59 p.m. EST.
• There is a $5 minimum donation to submit a pet's photo into the contest.
• Pets only. Photos cannot contain people. Photos containing people will be automatically removed from the contest.
• Pictures of horses, turtles, birds and/or all other pets are welcome to be submitted.
• Your pet does NOT have to be adopted from Halifax Humane Society, or any other shelter, to be eligible to enter the contest.
• Photos must be uploaded in full color, high quality (300dpi minimum), or 2400x3000 pixels, so that they will produce high quality 8x10 images for the calendar. Landscape photos are preferred.
• Halifax Humane Society reserves the right to edit or crop winning entries to ensure a proper fit for the printed calendar.
• HHS reserves the right to remove photo entries that are inappropriate or do not follow the rules of the contest. If this happens, the next winning entry will be chose to replace your entry in the calendar.
• All photos must be taken by pet owners. No stock photography accepted. By submitting your photo you certify that you own the copyright to the picture, and that you agree to grant HHS nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable right and license to copy, reproduce, publish in any media, distribute and display all submitted photos, images and text. All submitted photos are subject to review by HHS for inappropriate/offensive content. Incomplete and/or inaccurate entries and entries not complying with all rules are subject to disqualification. These entries will not be permitted and there will be no refunds. Photos may not be edited or altered (other than minor color, contrast, or sharpness adjustments).

• To vote online, click the "Participate" tab above. Each vote costs $1, and there is no limit to the number of votes one may cast.
• You must donate a minimum of $5 for five votes. Those votes can then be cast for any submitted photo in one-vote increments. Voters do not have to use all of the votes at the time of donation. When voters donate, they will be given the option of applying all of the votes to one photo, spreading their votes over various photos, or storing votes in their account.
• All votes must be applied to selected photos by the conclusion of the voting period to be counted.
• Entrants are welcome to vote for their own photo.
• Online voting begins as soon as the photo is registered and ends at 8:59:59 p.m. EST on July 31, 2021.
• ALL donations support our community’s animals at Halifax Humane Society.
  
  

• The photo entry receiving the most votes will be featured on the cover of the 2022 HHS Best Friends Calendar.
• The next 10 highest voted photos will be pictured as monthly features in the 2022 calendar.
• 2 additional photos will be crowned “Judges Choices Winners” to round out the remaining calendar months.
• All winners will receive a complimentary 2022 Calendar as well as other prizes as noted on the “Prizes” page

When you enter the Contest, you warrant that the photograph is original, that you are the sole owner and copyright holder of that photograph, and that you have not granted exclusive rights of that photograph to any other person or entity. You also warrant that the photograph does not invade the right of privacy of any individual; does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity.

Grant of Rights in Connection with the Contest.
With regard to any image or content submitted, you agree to grant the Halifax Humane Society, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive right and permission to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, publish, and distribute the photograph, or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, in connection with the Halifax Humane Society Photo Contest. HHS agrees that it will never sell the photograph or rights in the photograph to any individual or entity.

Grant of Rights for Additional Purposes.
By entering the contest, you also agree to grant to HHS, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive right and permission to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, publish, and distribute the photograph, or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment. HHS also agrees that it will never sell the photograph or rights in the photograph to any individual or entity.

Liability 
Releases are not responsible for printing, typographical, human or other errors of any kind in any Contest-related materials or for stolen, lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries. If, for any reason, the Contests are not capable of running as planned, or infection by computer viruses, bugs, or tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, actions of entrants, technical failures, or any other causes corrupt or infect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contests, HHS reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any entry or entrant and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contests and at its sole discretion award a prize from among all eligible non-suspect entries validly received prior to the action requiring such modification. By entering, all Contestants agree that the Contests are governed by laws of the State of Virginia for the resolution of all claims and disputes (excluding any claims against or disputes involving parties other than HHS relating to any prize awarded in the Contests).
