About Us

The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County prevents the unnecessary pain and suffering of domestic animals in our community, and promotes fulfilling, happy, and responsible relationships between people and companion animals through outreach and education.

As an open-admission, no-kill shelter we take in many animals that may not be immediate candidates for adoption. Whenever possible, our staff and foster parents work with these animals to rehabilitate and qualify them for adoption to good homes. There is no set limit to the length of time an animal can remain in our care.

Every animal, however long it remains in our adoption program, is guaranteed a clean, safe, comfortable space, nutritious food and fresh water, medical supervision, and, when needed, medical care and supplies. Our staff and volunteers also provide them with daily enrichment activities, including grooming, exercise, and socialization.

While we receive about a third of our operating funds from Kent County, we are not a county agency. The remainder of our operating costs relies on the generous donations from members of our community.
