Short story about your dog
Norby came to us from Tennessee, where he had been surrendered by his elderly pet parents. They lived in public housing (what we would call Section 8 here), and he had lived with them all his 17 years. They loved him deeply. And then one day, a new management company came in and said that he had to go. Just like that… he has to go. His pet parents were absolutely devastated.
The shelter called us directly. Can Albert’s help? They knew that if he went into the kennels in the back of the shelter, he would never come out. OF COURSE Albert’s would help. He went home with the shelter worker that day to be fostered.
By the time he was able to come to Wisconsin, Norby had shut down. Quit eating and drinking. Survived on sub q fluids. We were sure that he was a short term hospice baby. But his new dad is magic. Almost immediately after he arrived, Norby glommed onto his dad. That is his person and his safe space. Far from hospice, he began to thrive.
He has bounced back with a vengeance and now rules the house with an iron paw. He doesn't care that he is 2.8 pounds. He doesn’t care that he is deaf. He doesn’t care that he has no bottom jaw, he is happy and thriving at 18. He takes the best dog beds. He eats like a champ. He cuddles with his friends.
