All pets are eligible to participate and every pet will be pictured in the calendar. The registration fee is $25 for one photo. More than one pet is permitted in each photo. High resolution photos should be of the pet(s) only—no humans, please. Photos must be at least 300dpi and at least 1MB in size. Please see tips for determining your photo size. **
Please no Instagram-style or similarly filtered/altered images. Participants may only submit photos to which they have the rights to reproduce. Entries must be received by noon on September 15th, 2014.
There are three ways to submit a photo for contest entry.

Event Coordinator reserves the right to request a different photo if the above criteria are not met.
Each registration includes one copy of the 2015 Calendar. All local participants must pick up their calendars at the shelter.*
In-person entries and votes will only be accepted at the Shelter until close of business on September 14th, 2014. No in person entries or votes will be accepted at the shelter on September 15, 2014.
All Photos must be approved by the Event Coordinator during normal shelter business hours and may take up to 12 hours. You will receive an email when your photo has been approved.
If you mail your photo rather than submit it online, please note that we will be unable to return your photo to you.
Each vote is $1, and there is no limit to the number of votes one may cast. You must cast a minimum of 5 votes at a time for a minimum charge of $5. You may vote for your own photo. Online voting begins as soon as the photo is registered and ends at noon on September 15th, 2014.
In addition to our online system, voting can be done by mail, at the shelter, or by calling our Development Department at 703-746-5651. Votes made over the phone with a credit card are restricted to a $25.00 minimum. Offline votes (mail, telephone, in-person) must be received by close of business on September 14th, 2014. To make sure a vote is credited to the correct photo; voters must identify the pet and owner’s name. Make checks payable to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
Event Coordinator reserves the right to replace a photo in the contest with a different image containing the same pets in order to address possible design needs or challenges.
Prizes will be awarded based on fundraising total. Grand prize will be awarded to the participant who places first. First prize will be awarded to participants placing 2-9. Second prize will be award to participants placing 10-13. Third prize will be awarded to participants placing 14-29.
Due to the limitations of our computer tabulating system, there can be up to a 15 minute delay between when a gift is received/recorded and when it is reflected in the leaderboard. All gifts received before 12:00PM EDT will be honored. The leaderboard results are not official. Winners will be notified by phone on or about September 16th, 2014
Grand Prize: Your pet on the cover of our 2015 calendar.
First Prize: Eight first prize winners will receive full-page monthly placement within the calendar.
Second Prize: Four second prize winners will receive half-page monthly placement within the calendar.
Third Prize: Sixteen third prize winners will receive “above the fold” monthly placement (approximately 1/8 of a page).
Event Coordinator reserves the right to request a different photo in order to best represent the pet within the constraints of the prize they have won. For example, first prize winners may be asked to submit a photo with horizontal orientation, and second prize winners may be asked to submit a photo with vertical orientation. Additionally, if two photos of a similar theme both win first or second prize, preference will be given to the higher fundraiser.
**Please determine your photo size before submission. You can right-click on the photo to see the dimensions and size. Photos with low resolution may not be publishable on the calendar. Upload high resolution photos only or convert your photo to at least 300 dpi by going to www.irfanview.com or by using PhotoShop to enhance the image. Please adjust your image before submitting it for entry into the contest.
