Pet's Story
Hi, I'm Russell.
I was born in the country to a very old Jack Russell. As you can see, I only have three legs. The vets at Animal Aid think that I may have got stuck in my mum's birth canal, and that's why my front leg was deformed.
I was only 6 weeks old when I was taken to Animal Aid in Bairnsdale by a lovely lady, and then brought down to Animal Aid in Coldstream, where I was quickly placed in foster care with a family and a fur friend.
No-one really knew what was going to happen with my deformed leg, I tried really hard to use it, almost like a stumpy walking stick, but the team at Animal Aid knew something had to be done.
They called in the specialists to have a look at it. My foster family was so nervous for me, and waited patiently by the phone all day, waiting for 'the call' to see how I was and what could be done.
When the team finally called, it was decided, my leg had to go. It couldn't be saved. So a date was set.
The surgery wen't smoothly. My leg was removed from the shoulder, and although I was feeling a bit sore, I was up and about in no time. I have always been a bundle of energy, so my foster family had to make sure that I didn't jump around too much.
Within a few weeks my stitches were out and I was ready to be adopted.
My foster family knew as soon as they met me that they were going to adopt me. I knew too. As soon as I arrived at their house for the first time, it felt like home to me. They felt the same. We were already family.
I am now nearly two years old and I have been on so many adventures. I have such a fun life, sleeping on beds, playing with my fur friends, and snuggling with my family every day. I get to play with lots of other dogs at the dog park and there are even two new family members at home now, two cats, for me to play with. We are all the best of friends.
My mum and dad think it's funny that there are as many fur babies as people in our family, but hey, that's what we love about our family.
My mum and dad are so grateful to Animal Aid for everything they did for me. I am so grateful too. I have such a beautiful life and I feel so much love.

I love playing with my big sis, Marceline, my two kitty brothers, Sir Sockington and Wookie. My favourite thing to do is to run at the dog park and steal socks and undies.
