Artist Statement
I’ve had a mixed relationship with Art. I usually like it but when I am forced to do something, I have a hard time with it.

The first painting, “Current Mood I” is when I was forced to do an Art Class at the eating disorder clinic, but I didn’t want to. Like everything that I was experiencing I felt it was being forced on me. But I’m happy with the chaotic results. It does represent what I was experiencing at the time. Confusion and chaos.

The second painting was done when I was not feeling very good from my radiation. My Mom made me go to Paint night with other kids. I was very upset. “Current Mood II” accurately represents that feeling. I sometimes don’t understand why I don’t feel good, and why these things happened to me.

My favorite medium is drawing, and I hope I get to do it when it’s my choice.


Bio
Hello, my name is Matteo Sacco. I am currently 13 years old. I was 12 years old when I was diagnosed with Germinoma cancer on August 27, 2019. I’ve had chemo and radiation and now my MRI’s are clean. In the beginning of August, I was misdiagnosed with ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) and had to be at an eating disorder program for about two weeks.
