This painting is of my sister Elisse in the future. I was inspired by a live photograph I took of her with this red dress on. She doesn't have a lot of hair now but I imagined her in the future and looking more mature, too. She was making this exact pose when I took her photo. I used acrylic paint and marker. You can see and feel the marker as the background is smooth but the acrylic paint is spiky. The technique to do that was a special droplet technique to make the texture stand out. This means so much to me because I love my sister. She was just two months old when I had to go to the hospital for my surgery. She came every day to the hospital even if I couldn't spend time with her. We have a strong sisterhood.

Samaya is 9.5 years old and was diagnosed at 8 years old with Craniopharyngioma. She is 1.5 years post op. When she was diagnosed at 8, she was nearly blind and couldn't see color. She was grateful after the surgery she was able to "get her art Spirit back". Samaya has always been passionate about art. Even at 3 years old, she had the attention span and dedication to sit and make art with great detail. She is a very creative child who loves making all kinds of art: drawing, painting, pressed flowers, working with dye, tie dyed clothing, jewelry making and decorative theatrical mask making.
