My Story
Story told by Amanda....one of Allen's favorite people.
Allen was rushed to Asheville Veterinary Associates on the brink of death. He was found in a park under a shattered piece of wood; moments away from death. Barely a day old, Allen’s emaciated body was covered in fly larva and fleas. Not only was his situation dire but Allen was still attached to his umbilical cord and placenta. One of the veterinarians removed the rotting umbilical cord and placenta while the dedicated staff began cleaning his tiny, fragile body to rid him of the fly larva and fleas. Afraid for his safety, another staff member rushed to a nearby store to get kitten milk replacer. Knowing he was moments from starving to death, it was imperative that he gets some food immediately. Once he was clean and warm, he drank some kitten replacer milk until he was full and sleepy.
Since the immediate danger had passed, the only thing left was to find someone to take care of him so he could grow big and strong. One of the staff at Asheville Veterinary Associates, Melanie, had recently lost her cat, Percy (her angel baby sent straight from heaven), and was very willing to take on the challenge of caring for a new born kitten. Melanie had adopted Percy in much the same way that she came to adopt Allen. Percy came to Melanie as a newborn kitten which Melanie bottle fed and then cherished for the next 18 years. Melanie had lost Percy only a few months prior to meeting Allen and as she was taking care of him, she began to wonder if her Percy (angel baby sent straight from heaven) had sent this little kitten to her.
During the day, the business office of Asheville Veterinary Associates was turned into Allen’s daycare. While in daycare, he ravenously drank his bottle and slept a lot. Allen also received visits from staff and clients alike that wanted to be sure he was doing well. Once he got a bit bigger, he wrestled with toys (mostly toy mice) and loved to play in his cardboard house that his new mom Melanie had made for him.
Allen is now a healthy young kitten with a never-ending zest for life. He is a little spitfire that loves food (cat and human) and playing as much as he possibly can.
