My Story
I got Scrappy from the Asheville Humane Society in late September 2016 and boy was he a frightened one. Whatever abuse he had recieved before being saved by them left him a very touch fear dog. When I recieved him he hid in my laundry room or my bathroom for a whole month before finally making it to the bed room. Since the first time he allowed me to love him he has been my best most loyal friend in the world. With all the pain he had endured he was still able to learn to love his humans and love all other animals. I foster for another organization specializing in fearful dogs and the progress I make is solely because of him. He takes them under his wing and helps show them that not all humans are mean. He plays with them sleeps with him and shows them what being a dog is all about. His heart is bigger than any dog I know. His confidence he has now is amazing, he is still scared of strangers but he stands with his head held high around every one and animal he knows. He is momma's favorite boy (don't tell my other 3 i said that). This young man that held his head down and coward in the corner now smiles all the time and loves his belly rubs. Always playing and always smiling and always there to show another dog that came from similar situations that their is hope. He is what HOPE means in my eyes. So this picture is not just a picture it is a milestone of a boys life. It's a smile that shines through a 1000 tears. It's proof that broken hearts can be mended and it shows that these shelter dogs are down right phenomenal survivors and warriors in their own battles. It shows how a dog has over come so many fears and now smiles and plays like he was never afraid in the first place. It proves shelter dogs deserve a second chance.
