My Story
Kiran (Sanskrit name meaning "ray of light", which is an apt name) is a rescue from California (I recently moved from there with my fiance.) He was living in a neglectful home in Southern California where he was left alone outdoors all the time, and a family member turned him in to a shelter there. When I saw his sweet face online I knew he was the one for me, but I had no clue as to how much this sweet dog would change my life forever...

You see, I had recently lost the love of my life, my King Charles Spaniel named Cody, to heart disease, and I was alone, having just been through the hardest few years of my life. I had no family, no partner, no children, few friends, and was unhappy living in the SF Bay area where I had been living. At 46, and having no luck in the dating world, I was trying to make peace with the fact that I might spend the rest of my life alone and single. I was extremely lonely, sad and unfulfilled in my life.

Kiran simply is a ray of light - he loves everyone he meets, he is very affectionate and loving all the time - he is simply brimming over with Love! Right away, he brought so much love into my world, it was wonderful! Since Kiran is a super active dog, I knew I would do well to take him to the dog park where I was living. We started going every day, becoming acquainted with a small group of people and their dogs...it was a wonderful outlet for us both. Kiran got along especially well with a dog named Indy and I with Indy's owner, Steve. After we had been going to the dog park regularly for almost a year, I realized that there was a spark between Steve and I and we started talking more and meeting at the park and for hikes. One thing led to another, and a conversation of wanting to move to Asheville popped up one day, and we were both shocked to realize that we both had dreams of moving to Asheville and to the better quality of life that is offered here. Suddenly life seemed magical, and all of our interactions led us to believe that we were meant to be together.

Steve and I decided that since we are both in our mid-40's that it was time to take a leap of faith and change our lives (no time like the present), and after just five short months, we packed up our lives, left California and moved to Asheville together. (I lived in Cal. for 25 years and he for 12, so this was BIG!) We have now been living in Asheville for five months and we love it here! We are rebuilding our lives, restarting our businesses, and are now under contract for the purchase of our home that we dreamed of owning. Things are going wonderfully, and better all the time.

I give Kiran credit for my new life - I truly owe it all to him. Without him, Steve and I may have never met. I am grateful to Kiran every day for bringing Steve and I together and for our happiness and for my new life. Because of my sweet dog I now have a rich, full, fulfilling life filled with love and beauty, and for that I will forever be grateful to him.
