My Story
Sisa was born in the jungle of Ecuador. Her full name, "Sacha Sisa" is a girl's name and means "jungle flower" in Kichwa, the Indigenous language spoken where Sisa was born and where her mom served as a Peace Corps volunteer.
At around 4 months of age, she was skin and bones and so sickly that when a Peace Corps volunteer came along and begged Sisa's (human) mom to adopt her, she couldn't resist. Sisa had a huge infected wound on her head, was flea-ridden, mangy and full of tapeworms, and was severely emaciated and malnourished. Not long after, she broke her leg and nearly lost it to infection.
However, Sisa's mom fell in love with her, and though struggling through many health issues, Sisa was a constant presence in her mom's life. A year and a half later, Sisa returned to the US with her mom to live the life of luxury as an American dog. Soon she made the trip south to NC. At Asheville Humane Society, she accompanies her mom to work every day and has won the hearts of staff and volunteers alike! Sisa regularly provides much-needed comic relief to AHS staff and is a fabulous foster sister to many cats and dogs.
In the meanwhile, Sisa's mom runs the Community Solutions department, an amazing set of programs that provides essential services to families and pets in need. Please vote for Sisa to help Asheville Humane Society continue its lifesaving work for animals coming into its care as well as helping families and pets in need in the community!
