My Story
The Life of Maxx the Cat Boy
Based on a true story...

The basement was cold. Cold and dark and lonely. There were toys, but I had no interest in them. There was food; I had plenty of interest in that. But what I really wanted was my boy. My boy had grown allergic to me and could no longer cuddle me. I didn't know that because I'm a cat. I was living in the basement where my boy wouldn't be exposed to me. I missed him. I tried to fill my lonely heart with kibble to no avail. At least it filled my belly. Left all alone, I lost interest in grooming. I’d sleep for hours at a time. But one fateful day, all of this would change forever.

Chapter 1: Better Times

Life with my family was awesome before my boy became allergic. We’d sleep together, watch movies together, and enjoy life together. One time, I climbed a tree my family put in the living room. They put lights and shiny things on it. I had no idea that it wasn't for me, or that it would be so easy to tip over. Did I mention that I am a 20-pound Ragdoll cat? Such trees are apparently not made for my weight. The ride down was fun, though. I could feel the wind rushing through my whiskers as the tree fell. The shiny things fell off and became more shiny things on the floor. Let's just say that my family was not happy about it. My other friends, 2 cats and 2 dogs were there when it happened. I called the Labrador Scooby-Doofus and the Golden Retriever Oaf-Boy. They called me Pork Chop and Maxximus the Fattiator (my given name is Maxximus the Gladiator – oh, they’re hilarious). The 2 cats' names were Larry and Fidget. Fidget was a nervous cat. We would surprise him so he would take off down the hallway. Larry liked to nap and did not like being disturbed. Fidget took off when the tree fell; Larry laughed. Another time, my boy had tripped over Scooby-Doofus and Larry decided to sit on his chest while he tried to get up. Those were the good old days, and I wish I could see my friends again.

Chapter 2: Allergies

My boy started coughing a lot. This kept on until his parents discovered that me, Fidget and Larry were the causes of the coughing. My boy’s mom put us in the basement with our things. And there we stayed, sniffing under the door at the dogs, who felt sorry for us. My boy couldn't come near us because his body would have reactions like the coughing. I asked what they were going to do with us. Oaf-Boy said they couldn't keep us anymore. I was heartbroken. I thought for sure they’d take my boy to the vet and that whatever was wrong with his body would be fixed. One day, my boy's dad came down with the cat-carrier and put Larry in it. He said soothing words to coax him in, and me and Fidget figured he was going to the vet. Larry never came back. The next time my boy's dad came with the carrier, we growled and fled the thing that had taken Larry away. We didn't want to lose each other. My boy's dad finally packed up Fidget and carried him away too. That night was the worst of my life.

Chapter 3: A New Beginning

I woke up from my 10 AM nap, a strange-looking cat came through the door without opening it. I swear she teleported through that door. She said I’d have a new family soon. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My days in the basement were over! She said her name was Tiny, and she was the spirit protector of the boy I was going to meet soon. Her boy was kind to cats but he also already had a cat - an unfriendly cat. Tiny turned to leave. "Wait! When will I meet him!?" But she was gone. Weeks passed. I was beginning to doubt what she’d said, when the boy's dad came with the crate. I welcomed it, thinking he would take me to Larry and Fidget, or to the family that Tiny had talked about, until I realized he was putting me in the monster used for transportation. He put me in the back of the dreaded monster that carried my family from place to place. I shivered at the loud rumbling that came from all around me as we started moving. After an hour and a half of yowling myself hoarse, we stopped. I looked out the window at another monster that was sitting right next to ours. It was blue and boxy and contained someone who looked about the same age as my boy, and a taller person who looked just like him. My boy's dad carried me to the taller lady person who put me beside the youth that resembled her. I kept asking where they were taking me, but all they would hear was, "Meow, meow, meow." They couldn't understand me. But when the curly haired boy looked at me, I knew he was the boy for me.

My boy wrote down my words as he understood them, and I am happy to say I changed his life for the better, every bit as much as he and his mom changed mine. Read about my arrival to my new home, Misty (the unfriendly cat who grew to love me – sort of), other cats and people who came to stay with us, the loss of a tooth (mine!), my weight loss and exercise program (I’ve very svelte now), more about Tiny the spirit cat, and more. Meow! That means “Enjoy!”
