My Story
Hi, my name is Lucy and I’m a rescued Border Collie. My mom says I’m one of the sweetest, funniest, smartest dogs she’s ever met. A lot of people can’t imagine why I had to be rescued from a high-kill shelter, but it is not that uncommon. There are lots of Border Collies in rescue because people think we’re cool dogs, but then can’t handle our high energy and smarts. But in my case, the person who had me for almost two years left me outside by myself all the time and didn’t take very good care of me. About the time I turned 2 years old, she took me to the shelter because, according to her, “Lucy got herself pregnant”. (She kept one of my male puppies.) I was very sad in the shelter and got hookworms and kennel cough. Fortunately, Phoenix Rising Border Collie Rescue found me and got me out of that terrible place. My mom saw my picture not long after I was saved and she had just lost her beloved Border Collie, Casey. Mom says she fell in love with me at first sight and begged PRBCR to let me come live with her. She drove to Georgia to get me from my foster parents and brought me a stuffed lobster because we lived at the beach in Charleston. I ate its eyeballs on the way home and was a happy girl almost immediately! I loved the beach, the dog park, my dog cousins, and my new family! After we moved to Asheville, I also found I loved the mountains, hiking, snow, and my new home and friends. Mom and I now do all we can to help rescue other Border Collies and animals who need new homes and lots of love. Sometimes I even like the dogs we get out of shelters and take on long car rides to foster parents. I hope you’ll vote for me, but even if you have another favorite, please rescue and give to Asheville Humane Society to help other animals like me! #adoptdontshop. Or as Mom and I like to say: Peace, Love, and Rescue. 💟☮️
