Welcome to our first ever photo contest fundraiser! Show off the special cat(s) in your life by submitting your best photo and sharing it with your friends and family to get the most votes! Participants have a chance to win a fabulous prize!
Proceeds from the contest go directly to helping homeless cats in our community by providing essential spay and neuter services through TNR (trap-neuter-return).

Winners will be determined by total number of votes at the end of the voting period. The top photo in each category is eligible for a prize as outlined below:

"Poppy the Cat"
A total of four winners will be announced on December 2nd, 2024 on Instagram and Facebook. Winners will also be notified by email. Winners of custom portraits agree to have their contact information provided to the artist to allow communication regarding fulfillment of their custom portrait.
Winners will have the option of picking up their prize in-person from Sunnyvale, CA or to have their prizes shipped to them (US addresses only please!). Prizes must be claimed by January 1, 2025. Unclaimed prizes by January 1, 2025 will be considered forfeited by the winner and be retained by Bay Area Cats for future fundraising events.

Contest & Voting
Each entry in the Bay Area Cats Photo Contest is a $5 donation. Feel free to submit multiple photos across any of the available categories detailed below.
Each vote is $1 ($1 = 1 vote). You can vote as many times as you like, for as many photos as you like! Current number of votes will be publicly displayed with each photo throughout the voting period.
Contest and voting begin at 12:00:00 AM (Pacific Time) on Friday, November 1, 2024. Entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM (Pacific Time) on Monday, November 18, 2024. Voting period ends at 11:59:59 PM (Pacific Time) on Sunday, December 1, 2024
Photos must:
- be owned by the entrant
- depict one or more cats.
- be entered into only one category - you may enter multiple, unique photos, but please do not enter the same photo into multiple categories.
- be still images (no video clips or .gifs)
- not be significantly altered beyond cropping and minor sharpness, color, shadow, or contrast corrections.
- acceptable photo formats are: .jpg, .bmp, .png, and .tif
Photographs that are considered inappropriate will be promptly removed without notice.
Photo submissions may be featured on Bay Area Cat’s Instagram and Facebook page.
Photo Categories
- Pet Cats: Submit your favorite photo of your pet cat or kitten! Foster kitties are welcome to enter as well!
- Tips Appreciated: Submit your best photo of an ear tipped cat!
- Cats & Traps: Submit a photo of a cat in a trap, around a trap, or on top of a trap. Photos must include a trap! *The prize for this category is a Tru Catch trap - enter the other categories if you want a chance to win a pet portrait!

To decrease the number of unfixed cats in the community.
Overview
Our organization provides resources and enables the community to do trap-neuter-return (TNR). We spend time training, educating, rescuing kittens, and assisting with TNR efforts. We help connect people to spay/neuter resources and support those with financial need. We maintain a Facebook group for the community (facebook.com/groups/bayareatnr) and provide resources via our website (bayareacats.org).
About the Artists
Kai Lun Qu
Kai Lun Qu is a renowned artist celebrated for his powerful oil paintings, seamlessly blending traditional fine art techniques with pop culture subjects. He has contributed to major projects, including the award-winning game Marvel SNAP, and is a licensed artist for both Marvel and DC. Kai also created cover art for Ken Foree's Descendant of the Dead and the limited edition publication of Dan Simmons' classic horror novel Carrion Comfort. Based in LA, he continues to push the boundaries of pop culture-inspired fine art.

Sandra Sanchez is a contemporary portrait artist from Southern California. She is constantly compelled to recreate the humanity of her subjects through the use of sensitive colors, fluid rhythms, a naturalistic drawing and manipulation of values for a strong visual impact. Sandra is a recipient of the Anders Larson-Toich Fund Scholarship, the Alma Schapiro Fund Scholarship and the Neil Patterson Award of Excellence, and a two-time Hudson River Fellow. She currently shows in galleries such as Eleventh Street Arts and the Salmagundi Club in New York City.
