Description
Scarlet king snake (Lampropeltis elapsoides) from Walton County. Scarlet king snakes are a small, colorful, but secretive species of snake found in a variety of habitats throughout the state, particularly mesic flatwoods here in the panhandle. While harmless, their red yellow and black bands are thought to mimic the colors of the venomous coral snake (Micrurus fulvius).
