Rules

Register & Submit entry:
  • Contest runs from 6:00:00 AM (Pacific Time) on Thursday, August 1, 2024 and runs through 9:00:00 PM (Pacific Time) on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
  • Each entry is a $10 tax-deductible donation. Multiple entries are encouraged.
  • Winners will be announced via Facebook Sunday, September 18, 2024 noon (PDT). We will announce the judges' choice by noon on Wednesday, September 21, 2024 (PDT).
  • There are several categories for the contest. When you submit a photo, you will be required to pick which category you would like to enter your photo in. The categories are:
    • Primary calendar contest – entries compete to be the main photo for each month in the 2025 calendar
  • Best-In-Class – Entries compete for the most votes for each Best-In-Class category
    • Best Action shot
    • Best Hiking/Outdoor Adventure Shot
    • Best Senior
    • Funniest/Best Comedic Shot
    • Best Buddies shot (non-human)
    • Most Annoyed
    • Best Puppy Shot
    • Best Caught In The Act
    • Goofiest face
    • Best water shot
    • Best napping shot
    • Best Wardrobe or Costume
    • Best Use of a Prop or Food
    • Wild Card
  • Primary calendar contest - One dog cannot win more than 1 of the top 12 place finishes/featured months. If a dog with multiple photo entries has more than one of the top 12 most voted photos, the photo with the most votes will be selected for a featured month. The photo/dog with the following highest number of votes will then move up a spot in the placing accordingly.
  • Reserve-A-Day box photo – $15 reserves a date box photo (dates are first come, first served).
  • Calendars are available for pre-order for $20.00 (+$5.00 Shipping)
  • Mini-Contests - The photo with the most votes cast during that particular week wins the mini-contest, not necessarily the overall contest leader at the end of that week. If the same photo receives the most votes in multiple weeks, the second most votes that week will be the mini-contest winner. Week 1: 08/19/22 6:00 AM (PDT) – 08/25/22 11:59 PM (PDT), Week 2: 08/26/22 12:00 AM (PDT) – 09/01/22 11:59 PM (PDT), Week 3: 09/02/22 12:00 AM (PDT) – 09/08/22 11:59 PM (PDT), Week 4: 09/09/22 12:00 AM (PDT) – 09/16/22 9:00 PM (PDT)
  • All donations are non-refundable.
  • CalPaws K9 Rescue reserves the right to modify or clarify any of the contest rules during the term of the contest without advance notice.

Voting:
  • Votes are a $1 donation. The number of votes is equivalent to the dollars donated. A minimum $5 donation is required. You can use your votes on as many different photos as you want.
  • Your vote (donation) is tax-deductible.
  • If you submit a photo, you can share links with your family and friends to encourage voting.

Photo submission requirements:
  • The photo contest is open to everyone.
  • Photos of ANY large dog rescued from a rescue are welcome. Small and medium rescue dogs with big personalities are also welcome. They do NOT need to be affiliated with CalPaws K9 Rescue.
  • Photos may contain more than one pet.
  • Dogs (and other animals) only in the photos; no humans, please. The photo does need to contain a dog rescued from a rescue.
  • All photos must be uploaded; we cannot accept printed photos.
  • Only digital photographs will be accepted. Please no graphics, illustrations, or text added.
  • Computer-generated images will not be accepted.
  • Photos must be clear and require a minimum 300 DPI resolution to allow for enlarging.
  • Tip: If using a camera phone, use HDR mode. If using a digital camera, use a "fine" resolution setting.
  • All photos must be uploaded in TIF, JPEG, or RAW format only.
  • Photographs may be color, black and white or sepia-toned.
  • Photos with dogs wearing choke, prong, or shock collars will not be accepted.
  • Photos with red eyes or glowing eyes will not be accepted.
  • Digital effects other than typical cleanup, lightening, cropping, etc., will not be accepted.
  • Submitted photographs become the property of CalPaws K9 Rescue. We reserve the right to crop, resize, or edit a photo if necessary.
  • All submitted photos may be shared on the various CalPaws K9 Rescue media platforms, including but not limited to our webpage, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • All entries must be the original work of the entrant. You must own the copyright to the photograph: no professional or copyrighted photos.
  • CalPaws K9 Rescue has final approval of all photos submitted to our website and calendar and reserves the right to decline the publication of any photography.
  • Photo submission must include:
    • Name of Dog(s)
    • Owner's Name
    • Owner's Email Address
    • City and State
    • Name of rescue yo rescued your pup from
    • A short paragraph to tell voters something fun or interesting about the dog(s) in the photo. Is this a CalPaws K9 Rescue dog? Estimated or actual age? How long have they been part of your family? Any extra fun or special information you'd like included in the calendar if your photo wins.
