Over the years, we lost two huge pine trees and a maple, all that provided safe cover for the birds from hawks. The location of our feeder did not provide much protection for the birds, so we relocated the feeder to the remaining tree in our backyard. The birds are now safer, but the squirrels find it much more convenient to eat bird seed from our feeder than to pick up acorns from the oak trees on the farm behind our house. This squirrel has gotten extremely bold; it does not even run away when I fill the feeder!
