Phoebe stays at her ideal weight by being OCD about playing fetch. It's a daily requirement, at least twice a day to have a catch, winter and summer. She played fetch from the first time I brought her home at three months old and she's nine now.
Laser staring at me expectantly when it's time to have a catch. She never lets me out of the contract until I throw the ball at least 20 times and each time is like the first time for her. As I said she's obsessive-compulsive about this.
When I actually sit on the deck and throw the ball into the yard rather than sit inside and throw the ball onto the deck. The ball goes farther in the first instance and the game's just more fun in the grass. She would be fine with doing this in 90 degree heat till her tongue was touching the ground, so I limit the number of throws for fear of heat exhaustion.
