Established in 1988, Doberman Rescue Unlimited, Inc. (DRU) is a nonprofit, charitable organization whose purpose is to rescue abused, abandoned and unwanted Dobermans, and place them in good, safe and loving homes. We support the community by assisting the local police department with housing, and if necessary, rehoming their stray animals. Another important element of DRU is that we educate the public about Dobermans and responsible, humane animal care.
Since its founding, DRU has provided rescue services for thousands of dogs. We've rescued Dobermans in need from our primary service area of New England and New York/New Jersey, and also from many other areas of the United States; we’ve even taken in Dobes from places like Egypt, Kuwait, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. We currently have over 40+ dogs in our care.
DRU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. We receive no federal, state, or affiliate agency funding and rely solely on donations, fund-raising activities and membership dues to keep in operation.
