Pet's Story or Bio
Many people thank me for running the Old Dominion Humane Society. What they do not know is Roxy is the reason I do what I do. Rescued from outside of a store in a box labeled “Free to Good Home” Roxy has been a part of my family for 14 years. Roxy is the girl who empowered and inspired me to save dogs. She taught me about pit bulls. It is because of her I learned about what happens to black and white pit bulls in shelters. I learned they rarely make it out alive. In spite of judgmental looks thrown her way for simply being a pit bull, Roxy has been quite the ambassador for her breed. People have no idea how many lives, humans and dogs, she has touched and saved. Roxy often visits the special needs classrooms at a local high school where she brings joy to every single one of those children. Roxy has visited nursing homes where she puts a spark back into the eyes of the residents. Over the years I have relied on Roxy’s help with running the rescue. Essentially Roxy is the one who chooses which dogs come home from the shelter. She is my temperament tester. Roxy’s job doesn’t stop with temperament testing. She works to rehabilitate the dogs once they come home from the shelter. She teaches scared dogs the ways of the pack which instills confidence in them. She teaches abused dogs about love and trust. She works with hyper dogs to expel energy and turn them into calmer dogs. Her abilities are instrumental in turning shelter dogs into family pets. I thank God every day I have such a wonderful best friend. So thank you Roxy for all that you have done for my family, the community and me.
