FAQ

How much is the entry fee?

The entry fee is $25 per photo. This fee includes one copy of the full-color calendar that will be mailed to you in October.

You can make an additional donation during the entry process with each dollar counting as one vote.

All proceeds from contest entries will help us provide shelter and care for the homeless animals at the Dumb Friends League.

How many photos can I enter?
You can enter as many as you want!

How many votes do I need to have my pet featured on a certain month?
We want to make sure we feature all kind of animals in our 2019 calendar. The top 5 dogs, top 5 cats, top 1 horses and top 1 small pet with the most votes will be featured as our Pet of the Month models. The pet with the most overall votes will get to pick which month they are featured.

All submissions will be featured on a collage page in the calendar.

All proceeds from votes will help us provide shelter and care for the homeless animals at the Dumb Friends League.

How do I vote for a pet's picture?
Votes are $1 each, with a minimum donation of $5 for five votes. All votes are tax-deductible. Yes, you can vote for your own pet's photo (and as many times as you and your friends and family want!).

How to vote by mail:
Make your check payable to Dumb Friends League. Include a note with the check stating the pet's name and owner's name, and that you wish to apply your donation toward votes for them in the Pet Photo Contest. Please also include your phone number in case we have any questions.

How do the categories/leaderboards work?

We work with all kinds of animals and want to make sure they are featured in our 2019 calendar!

The top 5 dogs, top 5 cats, top 1 horses and top 1 small mammal/ reptile with the most votes in their respective categories will be featured as our Pet of the Month Models. Overall ranking does not determine the top 12, the ranking per category will determine the Pet of the Month models.

The pet with the most overall votes will get to pick which month they are featured.

When does voting close?
Voting closes on August 6 at 5 p.m.

How do I know if I won?
The winners of each category will be announced via email. You can also check the leaderboards to see how well your pet is doing.  Remember, only the top 5 dogs, top 4 cats, top 2 horses, and top 1 small mammal/ reptile with the most votes will be featured as Pet of the Month models.

When will I get my calendar?
We will mail calendars in October 2018.

My pet is microchipped, so why does my photo need to show my pet wearing a collar and tags?
As your local animal shelter, we feel it is important to promote responsible pet ownership via collars and tags. It is really hard to photograph a microchip! For the Pet of the Month photos, our staff will make a case-by-case determination about photos, as we do understand that there are certain angles and fur that don't allow collars to be easily seen. If we love your photo but your pet does not have a collar and tag, we will Photoshop them in.

Can I drop off my entry or votes at your shelter?
Yes, entries and votes may be dropped off in person at our Quebec Street Shelter no later than 1:00 p.m. MDT on August 6, 2018.

How do I enter the contest via mail?
