Rules

  1. Photos will be accepted on the contest website from 9:00 am EST on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 until 8:00 pm EST on Monday October 30, 2019.
  2. Photo must feature Canadian wildlife and must be taken in a wild setting.
  3. Submission must feature only Canadian wild animals - not domestic animals, livestock, exotic animal, or feral domestic animals.
  4. Wildlife must be photographed in the wild, no images of wild animals in homes, zoos, or enclosures will be accepted. (Note: The Ministry of Natural Resources prohibits keeping wildlife as a pet). A GHS representative will contact those who do not adhere to these rules.
  5. The photo must not contain people.
  6. Entrants must not infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person or submit images that involve the willful harassment of wildlife or damage to the environment by the photographer. All photos should be taken in adherence to NANPA Principles of Ethical Field Practices. Additionally, free-living wildlife cannot be coerced with food (with the exception of birds at feeders only) or stressed unnaturally in order to be photographed.
  7. The photo must be a high-resolution image. 300 pixels per inch (ppi).
  8. The voting will end at 8pm EST on Monday October 30, 2019.
  9. If there is a tie in votes for any of the top 10 spots, the tie breaker will be determined by the individual who submitted their entry first and this will be displayed accordingly on the home page under the Leaderboard.  The photos who are displayed as the top 10 at the end of the competition on the home page under the leaderboard will be the final winners.
  10. Winners must email a high-resolution copy of their photo to give@guelphhumane.ca after the contest. (Winners will be contacted by Guelph Humane Society notifying them after the contest closes)
  11. Votes are $1 each. $20 will count for 20 Votes and $50 will count for 50 Votes, etc.
  12. The top 1 winner’s photo will be featured on the cover of our 2020 Spring Paw Press Newsletter and receive a special prize pack, their photo will be featured at the front of the GHS wildlife greeting cards set. The top 10 winners will be featured in an exclusive, limited-edition pack of GHS wildlife greeting cards. Top 10 winners will receive (1) set of cards for free, more will be available for purchase. Proceeds will support the Guelph Humane Society wildlife program.
  13. By submitting a photo entry, you warrant and represent that your entry is your own original work created by you and that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to your entry materials. Guelph Humane Society reserves the right to disqualify at any time any photo it determines to be unsuitable. If you submit an entry that is copyrighted by another individual, you are responsible for any legal action the copyright holder takes against you. You agree to indemnify Guelph Humane Society and hold them harmless from and against any claims of any nature arising in connection with the Guelph Humane Society Wildlife Photo Contest. Entrants grant Guelph Humane Society all rights of reproduction and royalty-free indiscriminate use of entries and photographs for any purpose. By submitting a photo to the Guelph Humane Society Wildlife Photo Contest, the artist agrees to give and grant to Guelph Humane Society, its employees, nominees, agents, successors and assigns, unlimited authorization, consent and permission to publish and use, any and all information about the animal and any and all reproductions of animal's likeness (photographic or otherwise).
  14. Entry into the contest constitutes your agreement to allow your entered photographs - and your name - to be published as winners or finalists in the wildlife greeting cards, newsletter and other publications, and on the Guelph Humane Society website, and be used for fundraising and educational activities of the Guelph Humane Society with appropriate photography credit. These activities may include, but are not limited to, Guelph Humane Society publications and web pages, calendars, annual auction, online photo features and contests, photo cards, and emails providing Guelph Humane Society information.
  15. Photo credit for the photographer will be featured on the back of the wildlife greeting card that their photo is feature on.
