Dante loves spending time at the dog park, K-9 Kamp and Best Paw Forward Doggy Day Care, meeting new people, swimming, giving doggy kisses and most of all playing fetch. In April of 2015, as a way to try to fill a void after losing my first dog in January 2015, I decided to become a volunteer at Helping Hounds Dog Rescue. I knew I'd want to adopt another dog but I didn't realize just how quickly that would happen. I welcomed my fist truck full of dogs from Texas on June 5, and on June 6 I adopted Dante (FKA Vader) from Wichita Falls. From day 1 his personality shown through. His first day home, I quickly learned just how smart and agile he was when he jumped the gate just to be near me as I was turning off the hose. He excelled at training and learned new tricks quickly, even if he didn't love being held back from his doggy and human friends by a leash.

Then in January of 2016 he became my rock after what could only be described as the worst day of my life, when my father suddenly passed away. I had always turned to friends in times of trouble and I never expected Dante to be the one who would comfort me and keep me going through the days that followed. He curled up on my lap, laid next to me when I didn't want to move, licked my tears when I cried, stood by my side and loved me unconditionally.

Since then he's tried my patience, made me crazy, made me laugh, sat gently next to my mom when she stayed with me after her recent surgeries and has truly been my companion. Everyone who meets him immediately becomes his best (well 2nd best I hope) friend.
