Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary is a specialist Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre for all Equines. Located in the rolling green hills of Gordon, Western Victoria, we are committed to sustainable and ethical, equine rescue and rehabilitation.
We firmly believe in improving the physical and psychological wellbeing of every animal that resides at HSES, along with actively lobbying and advocating for all companion animals. Each horse at HSES stays with us until we are confident they are ready to be rehomed.
Our horses are extensively vetted and handled. We invest in re-educating horses to help ensure excellent, forever homes, from basic groundwork to ridden under saddle. Alternatively, some horses are assessed as needing sanctuary at HSES indefinitely, due to health or behavioural issues.
Founded by passionate animal lovers and advocates in 2014, we are currently home to over 120 equines plus multiple sheep, goats, deer, alpacas, peacocks, turkeys, geese, ducks, chickens, peacocks, 10 dogs, 2 pigs, 1 galah and too many cats to count.
We are a fully registered charity under the ACNC, and rely largely on funding from donations, committee members and a small number of animal sponsors to continue our work. We are a volunteer led and run organisation and all proceeds go straight to supporting Sanctuary residents.
