Vote for me!Lucy’s story is one of resilience, second chances, and the life-changing bond between a dog and her people. She was brought into the Riverside Animal Shelter as a stray at just five months old- alone, scared, and at risk of never making it out. That’s when she was rescued by Ashley Jacobs, founder of Diamond’s Friends Pet Rescue, an incredible nonprofit dedicated to saving, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs throughout Orange County.
By pure chance, I met Lucy while walking my family’s dog with my mom in our neighborhood. Ashley walked toward me with this beautiful pup wearing an “Adopt Me” vest, and in that moment, everything changed. It was truly love at first sight. Lucy came home with us shortly after, and from that day on, she has been so much more than just a pet.
Lucy is the definition of “who rescued who.” While we may have given her a home, she gave us something far greater. Less than two months after adopting her, my partner’s father passed away from ALS. It was an incredibly painful and heavy time in our lives, and Lucy became our light. She brought comfort in quiet moments, laughter when we needed it most, and unconditional love that helped carry us through grief.
She has grown from a frightened shelter puppy into a confident, affectionate, and deeply intuitive dog who has an extraordinary ability to connect with people. Lucy reminds us every single day of the resilience animals carry and the profound impact a rescued dog can have on a family.
Lucy should win not just because she’s beautiful—but because she represents hope. She is proof of what happens when a dog is given a second chance: they don’t just survive, they transform lives. Her story shines a light on the importance of rescue organizations like Diamond’s Friends Pet Rescue and the lifesaving work they do every day.
