How we met
Adopted from Humane Society in 2023. We were told that it might take days or even weeks for Jimmy Kitty to warm up to his new home, based on his slow adaption at the Humane Society. (He spent his first month there cowering in his litter box.) We decided to let him stay in our bathroom until he felt safe, then let him explore other rooms when he was ready. But Jimmy must have felt a reciprocal love for us immediately. Within a few hours of arriving at our house, he jumped on our bed, stretched out for belly rubs, and slept the entire night at our feet. The next morning he explored each room, and he's been king of the house ever since.

What is the best trick your pet has taught you?
Jimmy Kitty taught me to sit in my recliner at the end of each day, pull a fuzzy blanket across my lap, and allow him to climb on. He kneads for a few minutes and lays down. When he meows and turns his head upside down, that means I must let him use his paws to place my hand where he wants it; usually underneath his head, cupping it so I can rub his forehead with my thumb. Then he promptly falls asleep. It only took a couple tries for me to master this trick, to his satisfaction.

What is the strangest thing about your pet
He's quite social, but in the middle of the day Jimmy Kitty typically disappears to take a nap under the bed. He has his choice of any soft chair or bed to lay on. But instead he goes under the bed to sleep on top of a plastic storage bin.

Does your pet have a favorite toy or activity?
We have bird and squirrel feeding stations set up for Jimmy Kitty to observe outside a floor-to-ceiling window. Each morning I open the window a few inches, so he can hear and smell the wildlife, as well as see it. He'll sit or lay in the floor for hours, observing, "chirping," and dreaming of catching some prey. (Catnip mice give him an outlet for that hunting instinct.)
