One spring, an enormous jowly tabby began terrorizing my yard, sparring with the local feral crew. I named him Su, as in "A Boy Named Sue," (Johnny Cash) and also after my cat-loving best friend. One morning he appeared dragging his hind end, and I knew it was time to intervene. After a rainy night and a three-course fish buffet, I managed to trap him and take him in to be examined. And neutered! With no clear diagnosis, the vet prescribed r&r, so I set him up in a pumphouse. A month later, healed and tamed, Su hung up his spurs and traded a life of street brawls for the good life on my couch.
