About HSLWR

The Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch (HSLWR) exists to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats within our local community. We formed in 2010 as a 501c3 non-profit, to respond to the high euthanasia rates within our county animal shelters, which was 50-65% and is now near 5%. HSLWR intakes all of our dogs and cats from our County Animal Services, other rescue organizations and local surrenders. We provide a safe haven for companion animals in need until a loving, forever home can be found. We care for and provide medical treatment, spay/neuter, tests/vaccines and microchipping for >300 animals per year. Our Philosophies are: Kindness and respect of animals with special needs and of all ages; Provide necessary, quality medical care to animals while in our care; Support and encourage volunteer endeavors in our community; Develop outreach programs to foster an understanding and caring community; Enforce stringent adoption policies to ensure a safe and proper home environment for the animal; and Educate our community and adopting families on the responsibilities of animal ownership.

HSLWR is a 98% volunteer run organization. We rely solely on contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations. We receive no federal funding, nor are we funded by any national humane organizations.
