A little about me...
We met this playful puppy while on a mission trip to Marvell, Arkansas. My son and I were volunteering at the Humane Society of the Delta on multiple different days during our visit and it was almost as if this sweet pup hand-picked us. After our first day volunteering, we began praying about adopting a dog from this shelter. We were praying for an older dog to join our family thinking this would be the best way to help the shelter. Harlow, as she was named at the shelter, had other plans for us. After meeting her, we were praying and considering adopting a puppy instead of an older dog and I was surrounded by scripture that encouraged us to go for it. Even my Facebook memories from the year before opened me up to the following quote as well: "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake." -Martin Luther King Jr. This loving young pup stole our heart and we just knew she would be the newest member of our family. My son and I ran through the downpouring rain to take her out of her outdoor kennel one last time as she would await transport indoors with the staff. It was a tender moment that impacted both of us greatly. We renamed her Delta in honor of all of the amazing work that is done at this shelter and to pay tribute to the dogs (and cats) that have been saved by the staff and adoptive families. Due to Delta having some health concerns, we waited a few weeks for our new puppy to come home but it was not an option for us to give up on her. On a late night mid-July we drove to Iowa to meet someone from the shelter and then back home to Minnesota to introduce Delta to her new family. She immediately began bringing so much joy and spice to our family. She fell in love with our children and greets them excitedly at the door when they arrive home from school. Delta adores running in the yard and picking up every single leaf and stick she can find. Our children were crossing their fingers hoping that she would be a playful puppy who enjoyed toys and tricks and they sure got what they asked for! Delta loves fetching, shakes hands, sits and stays like a champ, and just about anything that involves playing...including running sideways! Thank you Humane Society of the Delta for the opportunity to adopt this very important part of our family. Delta is loved, cared for, and most importantly, HOME!
