A little about me...
Manny, aka "Barts Manfred" as he was known in his racing days, is a 9 1/2-year-old greyhound rescue. We adopted Manny from Bay Area Greyhound Adoption (BAGA) in the Spring of 2020 as he was completing a special training program sponsored by BAGA in partnership with the Greyhound Advancement Center (GAC). GAC is an organization that works hand-in-hand with greyhound tracks, farms, transport, and adoption groups to ensure more effective placement into forever homes, while promoting a more positive image of greyhounds as companion, therapy and service dogs. This 10-week program allows specially trained inmates at Hardee Correctional Institution Work Camp (HCI) near Wauchula, Florida, to train the dogs in basic obedience, with an emphasis on the greyhounds having a level of training to allow them to progress further as therapy dogs if that is of interest to the owner. We don't think that Manny graduated cum laude in his class, but without a doubt, he has been an absolute joy to have as part of our family. This picture was taken right after getting his bath at Woof Gang groomers in Carrollwood. He was getting all spiffed up for the Thanksgiving Holiday evidenced by his sporty bandana. Our thanks to the groomers who caught Manny in one of his more curious moments.
