Basil (a/k/a Hollywood)

Pet's Story or Bio
Basil was a black German Shepherd adopted from the Humane Society in 1999 when he was eight weeks old. He was the most “chill” dog ever and was the love of my life! He rose to fame as we drove around Tampa with the convertible top down, sunglasses on and the wind blowing through his beautiful black coat. Smiles and laughs would ensue as we pulled up next to someone and he would glace over at them smugly as if saying, "Yeh, I know I look cool". Thus, we started calling him "Hollywood". I came out of a store once to find a woman doing an entire photo shoot of him as he sat "kinglike" in the backseat of the convertible. She apologized. I said "No worries. He just charges $5.00 a photo". She laughed, gave him a hug and left with a phone full of photos. He loved to sit in the front yard in the evenings and take in the neighborhood activity. He would stay outside well after it got dark, then would reluctantly make his way into the house. I think he was keeping watch over me.

Basil was diagnosed with cancer after his 10th birthday but it was too far along to treat. He was a trooper right up to the end. I hand fed him every day, and stayed with him as much as I could up to the very end. The day he wouldn’t get in the car to go for a ride was the day I knew I would be saying goodbye.

Basil (“Hollywood”) went over the Rainbow Bridge way too soon, but certainly left an impression on many during his short time here on earth.
