About Us

The Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) is a compassionate care shelter and nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.

Founded in 1932, HSVC is nestled in the rolling hills of the picturesque Ojai Valley. Our 4.4-acre property provides a safe refuge for the homeless, neglected, and abused animals of Ventura County. We strive to remedy the greater problem of animal overpopulation, abuse, and neglect in our community through education and community outreach.

The HSVC is the only agency in Ventura County with Humane Officers who investigate cases of animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect. Our shelter functions as an evacuation center during natural disasters to house displaced animals at no cost to their owners. We also offer free pet food through various pet food bank programs to help keep animals in their homes and out of shelters.

As a private nonprofit, all our programs, services, and outreach efforts are funded entirely by the generosity of our community. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or ASPCA, nor do we receive funding from the city, state, or federal government. With the help of our donor, volunteers, and supporters, we can continue to promote the welfare, compassionate care, and protection of all animals.
