Animal’s StoryI didn’t plan on entering my cats in the Joybound contest. The whole thing happened because of a single photo — one of those moments you don’t stage, you just catch.
Both of them were sitting next to each other, facing opposite directions like they were posing for an album cover. One was looking up into the light, completely absorbed, like they’d just received a message from the universe. The other was staring down into the corner, deep in their own world, as if contemplating some great feline mystery. The contrast between them — one lifted, one grounded — made the whole scene look intentional, artistic, almost choreographed.
I snapped the picture because it stopped me in my tracks. It was creative without trying to be, dramatic without effort, and so perfectly “them” that it felt like it needed to be seen.
When I heard about the Joybound contest, that photo was still sitting on my phone, making me laugh and shake my head at how naturally theatrical they are. Entering it felt obvious. It wasn’t about winning — it was about sharing a moment that captured exactly who they are.
So that’s how they ended up in the contest: two cats, one light, one shadow, and a photo that deserved a little exposure.
