About Us
In 2014, Dr. Lowe and her husband Simon founded Kayser Animal Rescue Effort to provide life saving intervention for animals in need. Quickly filled to capacity with dogs, they reached out to volunteers to add a program specifically for cats: The Kitten Club. The successful adoptions of over 200 dogs and 125 cats were accomplished through specialized medical care, in-home socialization and a detailed matchmaking process similar to online dating. They have the BEST family of adopters and many return for a second adoption.
Unfortunately, the pet overpopulation problem in south Texas has shown little improvement and KARE is focusing their efforts increasingly on spay/neuter projects in order to make a larger impact. Even with the increase in spay/neuter programs, there still remain plenty of adoptable dogs and cats that come into KARE on a daily basis.
KARE's renewed focus on local pet-population control is supported in the form of grants for spay/neuter and medical care, a drop-trap lending program, and volunteer trapping team. Beginning with the initial animal sighting, KARE follows through with necessary medical care. Upon medical discharge, the animal will continue on the KARE path, which will lead to adoption, transfer to another rescue group, or return to a monitored feral cat community.
Dr. Lowe, Simon, and our volunteers are not merely people who are just passionate about rescue: it is in their DNA. When they see a stray on the road they are not "just keep driving" people, they are "run across the highway" people. Every dollar donated by generous supporters makes that possible. Thank you!
