In 2014, Dr. Lowe and her husband, Simon, founded Kayser Animal Rescue Effort. Quickly filled to capacity, they reached out to volunteers to add a program specifically for cats: The Kitten Club. The successful adoptions of over 200 dogs and 125 cats are accomplished through specialized medical care, in-home socialization and a detailed matchmaking process that is similar to online dating. They have the best community of adopters and many return for a second adoption.
Unfortunately, the pet overpopulation problem in south Texas has shown little improvement. In order to make a larger impact, KARE is focusing their efforts on spay/neuter projects and helping current pet owners keep their pets by assisting with their medical care. This renewed focus is supported in the form of grants for spay/neuter surgeries and medical care, a trap lending program, and a volunteer trapping team. Upon medical discharge, these animal will continue on the KARE path, which will lead to adoption, transfer to another rescue group, or return to a monitored feral cat community.
In addition to this , KARE also takes in and/or funds animals with serious medical needs by providing advanced veterinary care and rehabilitation, resulting in more pets rescued, healthier lives, and second chances.
Dr. Lowe, Simon, and our volunteers are not merely people who are just passionate about rescue: it is in their DNA. When they see a stray on the road they are not "just keep driving" people, they are "run across the highway" people. Every dollar donated by generous supporters makes that possible. Thank you!
