• Must be a cat or dog (no humans)
• Anyone can submit a photo (even volunteers!)
• Please provide a name of pet and brief story about your cat/dog
• Each entry is a $5 fee and is non-refundable. By submitting a photo entry, you acknowledge that your entry is your own original work.
• Contest begins at 8:00 AM (Eastern Time) on Monday, September 1, 2025 and ends at 9:00 PM (Eastern Time) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
• No votes will be counted after the contest closes. No exceptions.
• Votes must register online to be counted. Lighthouse Animal Shelter is not responsible for user error, slow servers or issues that may prevent votes from processing.
• Votes are $1 each and non-refundable. There is no limit on the number of votes one can buy.
• All winners and runners-up must be dogs or cats. Animals in contest photos must not be displaying any signs of distress (e.g., looking fearful or anxious). We reserve the right to ask for a new picture submission for any reason.
• By agreeing to the waiver when you enter the contest, you acknowledge and give permission to LIGHTHOUSE ANIMAL SHELTER to use the name, story and photo of the animal entered in future various Lighthouse Animal Shelter publications, promotions, and materials.
• Photos must be high quality and resolution. In general, they should be at least 3600x2700 pixels (or 12x9 inches) at a resolution of 300 DP.
• If a winning pet has a name that uses offensive or questionable language, or is in contradiction to Lighthouse Animal Shelter policies, that pet's name will not be printed.
• Top 3 winners must be able to pickup their prizes at Lighthouse Animal Shelter, 596 Hathaway Road, New Bedford, MA.  If winners cannot pickup from the shelter, they will forfeit the prize.

We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 organization whose leadership brings decades of combined experience in animal welfare and rescue.

At Lighthouse Animal Shelter we focus our efforts on helping homeless animals, with the main focus being adult and senior animals.

We rescue our dogs from high-intake shelters that have high euthanasia rates in southern states. The dogs we rescue face the risk of euthanasia due to no fault of their own.

The cats in our care are all local strays or owner surrenders. We have some resident feral cats, too, who we've all grown to love dearly.

Lighthouse also supports the local community in the effort to reduce pet overpopulation by promoting responsible pet ownership including the advocacy of spaying/neutering.
