Mumford is an LPCHS alumn. He had a rough start at life on the reservation. He came to the shelter when I worked there as a scrawny 8 month old puppy with a lame back leg. It was discovered that he had been shot in the leg and healed on his own. The leg couldn't be saved. Recently I learned Mumford's even tougher than I ever imagined. He has a bullet in his lung! Over the last 5 years he has lived a relatively normal life with health issues that could be managed, such as liver disease. Knowing what he has been dealing with under the surface for so long has given me an even bigger appreciation for who Mumford is.
Despite what he's been through, he has always been infectiously happy. He's loved going on easy hikes and playing with his "brother" Frederick. Despite his background, he is also very affectionate and sweet to people.
Mumford's future is a little unclear now as the effects of having a bullet in his lung for over 5 years catches up with him. I wanted to take the opportunity to share just how incredible he is. He is a tough little miracle.
