Pet's Story or Bio
Pippa, a little 6 lb chihuahua, was found on the Houston streets during a hot summer in 2020. Not only was she suffering the life of a stray, she was also disabled stray, only able to walk on three legs. The vet said she appeared to have an old injury that permanently prevented her from being able to extend and walk on one of her hind legs.
Fortunately, a good samaritan saved Pippa from the streets and went on to foster her through the city shelter, BARC. For nearly a year in foster care, there was not even one potential adopter. I had the amazing luck of coming across the little angel when her foster mom shared her adoption posting on the next door neighbor app in July of 2021.
Even before meeting her in-person, that little dog had my heart and I knew I needed to help her. After a virtual meeting with little Pip and her foster mom, I was finally able to meet her in person - I fell in love with her even more!
Happy ever after? Unfortunately, not quite yet. The day I went to BARC to finalize the adoption, the shelter performed a pre-adoption exam which included a heartworm test. That is when I learned that Pippa was heart-worm positive. A condition not detected during initial stray intake testing.
With the adoption not yet finalized, the shelter explained the seriousness of this condition and that treatment would be a lengthy process, possibly not survivable and that I had the option to cancel the adoption.
From the time I originally saw a picture of Pippa, I fell in love with the little pup. After meeting her in person, there was no doubt I wanted her to pick my home as her forever home. And the rest is history! Heartworm free, my family is so fortunate to have this pup in our lives!
