Last December my partner went off-island and told me to "spend at least two hours/day with Merry Christmas". Merry Christmas is our old, fearful cat who lives exclusively upstairs, away from the rest of our animal pack. Instead of heeding my partner’s advice, I went to MHS and adopted a kitten. All our other pets were found, so I was literally shaking at having to go to MHS, but the awesome staff made the whole process less scary. I chose a kitten, named him Harvey, and deposited him upstairs for the night. Merry panicked over her new roommate, but by the third night, they were snuggled up together.
Harvey has been the perfect companion for Merry Christmas. He waits outside her door and they spend the afternoons together. They chatter to each other and have complete conversations. Merry finally has a friend of her own!
Prior to Harvey's arrival, our dogs were not accustomed to cats; two of them would bark and want to chase every time a cat appeared. Harvey remedied that. His insistence on laying next to them and rubbing up against them desensitized the whole pack. Harvey was the best thing to happen to our household.
