We adopted NeNe (MHS name "Faith") in June 2010 while on vacation. When I made eye contact with her, and her defeated soul thru her eyes, I knew i wasn't leaving without her. Her trauma was palpable. Yet the other-worldliness of her soul was so evident.

I promised her we'd bring her back once I helped rid her trauma, so that she could experience Maui as the paradise we do. She made the pilgrimage back to her native land in 2016 and it was the trip of a lifetime!

She was diagnosed with Cardiac Hemangiosarcoma, the day before her first human "keiki" was born, in 2019 and given just a few weeks to live. She became a devoted nanny dog, forming a relationship to my child more beautiful than I could have ever dreamt.

She left her body Xmas day 2020, well beyond a year past her given time. My daughter, who was just 14 months at that time, is 3.5 year now and still talks about her daily. NeNe is an enduring part of her life.

In honor ofNeNe, we adopted from MHS again in Feb 2021. Kahi+Olu carry on NeNe's bright torch ❤️
