- To offer refuge, medical care, nourishment and an opportunity for a second chance at life to injured and abused animals;
- To protect animals from cruelty, neglect, carelessness and ignorance;
- To foster public sentiment of humanity and gentleness toward animals and promote responsible pet ownership through humane education; and,
- To enhance the quality of human life through animal companionship.
For 86 years, the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County has been caring for injured, neglected, and abused animals in our local community. For just as long, people like you have kept us going. Thousands of animals are neglected or abused in Memphis and Shelby County each year. Hungry, scared and injured, these animals face a bleak future. That’s where we come in. We are the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.
With support from animal lovers like you, the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County provides a safe and loving place for abused, injured, and neglected animals since 1933. Often the animals that come to us are severely injured and in great need of care. Our shelter team provides exemplary medical care, nutritious food, warm, clean beds, long walks, and love.
For many of these animals, this is the first time in their life that they have been treated with kindness and can feel protected and secure. Your support provides these animals food, medical treatment, and shelter. It gives them the time and care they need to learn what love feels like and know that there are people who care about them and for them.
On average, we provide sanctuary to over 100 animals at our facility at any given time, with dozens more placed with foster families until they are ready to be adopted. We are dedicated to giving these animals a bright future in loving homes.
HSMSC receives no tax dollars and is funded ENTIRELY on local donations from generous people like you.
